SurveilStar is an email monitoring software. It enables to control all computer and Internet activities emails. All upgrades are now free. However, the control panel for this application remains very basic. Some functions can prevent data leakage via IM file transfer. The architecture consists of agent, server and console.

Depending on the number of monitored user, the control panel enables you to maintain the SurveilStar monitoring system and review and control application usage and network traffic.

Main software features: SurveilStar Agent can self-protect from unauthorized uninstalling and send collect data to server. You can execute control strategies and manage all monitored computers.

Main features
One license for one computer: The demo version offers a 30-day trial for monitoring only 5 computers.

Main Cons
On top of the lack of features, SurveilStar is incompatible with Windows 7. In addition to that, the software doesn't seem to work with AOL and it also lacks a built-in monitoring advisory. The program requires a SQL data server to store the collected data. Version after 3.11 supports MSDE.

Overall, you can assign one of the policies to any specified PC activity such as: Inaction, Allow or Block the activity. In addition snapshots can be taken as frequently as once a second. Also offers multi-screen monitoring features.

System Requirements - How to deploy SurveilStar monitoring system:
  • OS: 2000 SP4/2003 SP1/XP SP2/Vista/7/2008
  • Available Hard Disk Space: 10 GB - 50 GB, or more
  • The server can be deployed on a dedicated computer
  • RAM: 512 MB mimium
  • There are 3 ways to deploy this monitoring system: direct, remote or login installation
Caution: Microsoft SQL Server must be installed before installing SurveilStar Server.
