What's new in GFI LANguard 9?
  1. Microsoft Updates - Accessed via the Scanned Computers window
  2. GFI LANguard can now detect whether a scanned machine is real or virtual. Currently both VMware and Virtual PC software are supported. A report can be generated from a completed scan.
  3. Over 15,000 vulnerability assessments carried out across your network, including virtual environment.
  4. GFI LANguard allows the useful option of a remote desktop connection to fix security issues on scanned computers that cannot be fixed automatically. Besides, you can perform a DNS lookup and traceroute.
  5. The GFI LANguard dashboard shows summarized results of all scans from the database and provides and overview of the most vulnerable computers and security status trends of the network.
  6. GFI LANguard version 9.0 builds on GFI LANguard 8.0 by improving further on usability and manageability.

Installation
The installation of NSS was quick, easy and painless. Very little user interaction is required for the installation process. You will, of course, need to read and accept their license agreement and provide your license key. As for manual, it is not only filled with solid information but also very easy to browse.

GFI LANguard Network Security Scanner combines vulnerability scanning and patch distribution into a very simple and straightforward package. Its strengths are definitely in its ease of use, its flexibility. However, it requires Windows 2000 and up, so it cannot patch Windows NT 4 systems.

With its many predefined security-scan profiles, you can collect information about hosts, shares, user accounts, services, registry entries, patches. NSS does not allow you to scan your network for missing patches.

Overall, you can also automatically deploy the missing Microsoft patches or service-packs throughout your network at the end of scheduled scans.
